An initial telephone consultation for the purpose of determining whether you may have a case or legal matter that I can help you with is free. When documents must be reviewed to determine whether your matter can or should be pursued, a fee will be charged for the review. If an in-person consultation is needed, a fee will be charged for the consultation. The steps needed vary from case to case. If you are calling on behalf of a relative who is in jail or prison, I usually will not make a personal visit to the jail or prison. An appeal is based the testimony and other evidence admitted in the trial. Most of the evidence will be found in the record on appeal, which is also referred to as the transcripts. In most cases, adequate consultation can be accomplished by telephone and letter. The record is prepared by the clerk and court reporter and copies are mailed to the attorneys on both sides of the appeal. I always solicit the client’s opinion of what mistakes were made in his or her case and why he or she wishes to appeal.
FEES
Fees are based on my estimate of the time I will spend on the appeal. I usually request payment in advance of work. If the client withdraws representation before completion of the case, the unused portion will be refunded. My hourly rate is $160. |
